Walking & Trekking

The African experience is more than just the immaculate beach fronts, bustling cosmopolitan cities or the vibrant traditions, many histories and cultural multitudes of her people. If you truly want to experience Africa then the walking safari is exactly what you need to discover the intimacy of nature and the spirit of the ancient continent.

Uniquely African, a walking safari entails trekking through the changing landscape with a knowledgeable guide or ranger. Learn the art of tracking wildlife from a local tribesman and walk in the footsteps of ancient civilizations who hunted and lived in the areas. It is all about the simplicity of exploring Africa on foot and there are trails that range from a four hour walk, to a 44 day Rim of Africa trail for the extremely fit and adventurous which covers more than 600 km of land.

Among the famous walking safaris are the Robin Pope Walking Safari in South Luangwe, Isibindi in southern Kruger National Park and the Chitabe and Selindi safaris in the Okavango Delta. Of the most scenic trails are those of Drakensberg Mountain, the Wild Coast of Transkei and the Western Cape's Otter and Outeniqua National Park Trails.

Whether you are interested in a shorter gentle walk discovering the tiny creatures of Africa, or walking across mountainous hills to discover the hidden treasure and rewards of the rock pool's refreshing water; at the end of the trail you will have learned more about Africa and experienced her natural beauty personally.
