Award winning in every way, Sun City is a man-made haven of adventure and extravagance, surrounded by mystifying tropical forests, hidden grottos, temple ruins and jungle streams, waterfalls and volcanoes, all awaiting to be discovered by you.

Offering an escape from mundane reality, the resort boasts a lavishly designed water park known as the Valley of Waves, challengingly designed world class golf courses and a rather thrilling nightlife built around the resorts casino. Having been internationally recognized with a plethora of World Travel Awards for Africa’s Leading Resort, as well as Africa’s Leading Family Resort and Casino Resort, and Leading Hotel Brand, Sun City is all about luxury, comfort and over-indulgence, because you deserve to be spoilt, right?

Conveniently situated just outside of Sun City, is Pilanesberg National Park and Madikwe Game Reserve. Both reserves offer visitors a chance to experience the African Big Five. Lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalo roam freely within these protected lands. Combining the luxurious lifestyle of Sun City with the natural splendour of a Big Five Game Safari is the perfect balance of African entertainment and nature at its best.

Type of Experience

LAVISH LIFESTYLE: Sun City is one of Africa’s most luxurious resorts catering to your every need. With four grandly designed hotels to choose from within the resort, the dome shape ceiling and exceptional attention to detail will make you feel like royalty. Surrounded by lush green forests, walking trails and alluring swimming pools, the resort is a haven of entertainment and relaxation. Pamper yourself to a full body massage or enjoy an unwinding session at the spa.

Tee off, swing and follow through in the footsteps of the great golfing legends, or head to the casino and grab lady lucks hand but remember, a poker face may be worth a million. You may even decide to rock with the high rollers and toss the dice at the roulette table. Whatever you decide to do, at Sun City, you are guaranteed to do it in style.

Infrastructure

The man made paradise of Sun City is a network of well designed pathways leading through forests. The architecture is reminiscent of ancient regal temple structures which exudes African essence. Hotels are lavish and luxurious, catering both to the romantic couple and the modern family.

Geography

Sun City Resort consists of many man-made geographic areas such as the golf courses and water features. The area is back dropped by the savannah hills and Highveld plain of Pilanesberg.

History

"Designed by hotel mogul, Sol Kerzner, the Sun City Resort opened its doors in 1979. During the time, the area surrounding the resort was independent from South Africa but according to local law, was granted permission to provide entertainment. Since then, Sun City has grown into a popular holiday destination. In the past, the resort attracted prominent celebrities such as Frank Sinatra, Queen, Elton John, Sarah Brightman and Tina Turner.

During the apartheid years, many international artists formed part of an activist grouped named, Artists United Against Apartheid, vowing never to perform within the borders of Sun City.

Since the fall of apartheid, the region surrounding Sun City was officially incorporated within the borders of South Africa. The holiday resort continues attracting local, international travellers and even plays host to international events."

Activities & Highlights

"VALLEY OF WAVES: Within Sun City, you will find one of Africa’s most exciting water parks, the Valley of Waves. Do not be fooled by the tropic display of palm dotted white sandy shores being graced by the tides of clear blue waters, it is all a man-made illusion. Waves of up to 1.8m are generated to simulate some of the most luxurious beaches for your enjoyment. The flume rides are both extravagant and thrilling. For the daring at heart, we suggest the Temple of Courage which plummets down for a screaming 17 meters.

UNIQUE GOLFING: The Sun City Resort is home to annual Nedbank Golf Challenge, which in the past attracted golfing legends such as Tiger Woods, Ernie Else and Vijay Singh. The 18-hole Gary Player Golf Course is both beautifully designed and one of Africa’s most challenging, featuring water hazards, sly bunkers and hidden pin placements. Fitted with a rather unique hazard, the par-three 13th hole is home to about 37 large Nile crocodiles.

WILDLIFE SAFARI: The game reserves of Madikwe and Pilanesberg National Park are ideally situated outside of Sun City and easily accessed by vehicle. Combine the lavish luxury of Sun City with the excitement of an African safari. Both reserves are prolific in wildlife and crocodiles, hippos, water birds and wild dogs can be seen within the grasslands.
